3 Days Krabi Itinerary – Summary

  • Explore stunning beaches, temples, hot springs, and sunsets in 3 days in Krabi.
  • Visit from November to March for the best weather and attractions.
  • Pack lightweight clothes, sunscreen, bug spray and hiking shoes for your trip.

How to Get to Krabi

The quickest way to get to Krabi is by air. Krabi Airport (KBV) offers direct flights from Bangkok and other major cities in Thailand like Chiang Mai.

The airport also offers connections to other parts of Asia such as Singapore, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. If you’re coming from Phuket, the flight only takes about 1.5 hours, making it a convenient and cost-effective option.

The second option for getting to Krabi is by bus.

There are regular public buses that run from Bangkok to Krabi and from Phuket to Krabi. There are also night buses that run from Bangkok and Phuket to Krabi, making it a good option if you’re on a budget.

You can also get to Krabi by ferry, if you come from the islands.

For those coming from Koh Phi Phi, there is an option of taking a ferry to Krabi (Ao Nang). The ferry departs from Tonsai Pier and reaches Nopparat Thara Pier. The ferry ride takes around two hours and there are a few departures each day.

Best Time to Visit Krabi

The best time to visit Krabi is during the dry season, which is from November to March. This is the optimal time for a visit as the weather will be pleasant and sunny.

During this time, the weather is ideal for exploring the area. This is also when many of the attractions like Railay Beach, Phra Nang Cave Beach, and Klong Thom Hot Springs, are at their most beautiful.

How to Get Around Krabi?

The most popular way to get around is by joining organized tours, which are convenient and offer an immersive experience around.

Alternatively, you can also take a taxi, Grab Cars, and a tuk tuk, which you’ll find in the Ao Nang area near the pier.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also rent a motorbike for a more independent journey. You’ll find many rental agencies all around Ao Nang and Krabi Town, and the price is around 250 to 300 THB per day, which is around $10.

This is a great way to explore the area and get to hard-to-reach places like the Tiger Cave Temple, which is a little far from Ao Nang.

Ultimate 3 Days Krabi Itinerary

Now that we’ve covered the essentials, let’s start this ultimate itinerary to Krabi. I’ll go through each day and offer all the activities that you can’t miss out on, as well as some unmissable day trips I recommend taking.

Day 1: Ao Nang & Railay Beach

Start your 3-day Krabi itinerary by heading to the beautiful coastal town of Ao Nang from the airport.

Ao Nang is the perfect spot to kick off your trip and explore the gorgeous beaches of South Thailand.

Get ready to be astonished by the stunning white sand beaches and limestone cliffs of Railay Beach, and take in the breathtaking views of the Andaman Sea. Here’s how to spend this first day of your Krabi itinerary.

Arriving in Ao Nang

Ao Nang is the ideal base for exploring Krabi, and the perfect spot for a night out. To get to Ao Nang from the airport, you can take a taxi, hop on a songthaew, or take a shuttle bus – I recommend the latter.

Once you’re there and checked into your hotel, you can make your way to the famous Railay Beach and its Phra Nang Beach, which is only a short long-tail boat ride away.

Tickets cost 800 THB return per person, but you can lower that by taking a group boat ride, which eventually can cost you 200 THB return.

Separated from the mainland by limestone cliffs and accessible only by boat, Railay Beach is a must-visit on any Krabi itinerary.

Visit Railay Beach

One highlight to add to your itinerary is Railay Beach, and coming over is one of the best things to do in Krabi!

You can buy your tickets at the Ao Nang Pier, there are 2 ticket offices, which are on each of the beach, for added convenience. Once you get your tickets, the trip to Railay only takes about 20 minutes by long-tail boat.

You’ll get here at either Railay East or West – In case you arrive at the western part, you can already chill on the beach, work on your tan, and have a drink at one of the cafes nearby. This is the most beautiful, pristine part.

On the other hand, in case you get to Railay East, you can either walk to Railay West and enjoy your time here, or walk to Phra Nang Beach, which is another stunning beach. Either way, make sure to visit both, as they’re within walking distance!

If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even try your hand at rock climbing in Railay Beach!

When it’s time for lunch, head over to one of the beachfront restaurants, where you’ll find a variety of seafood dishes and refreshing drinks. Hawkeye and Flame Tree Restaurant are very good, and despite the recent reviews, I’ve always had a great meal at both.

After lunch, relax in the sun or take a nap in the shade of a palm tree. And if you still have some energy, wrap up your day with a hike to the Railay Viewpoint, where you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the beach and the surrounding islands.

A word of caution – Be careful to the monkeys all around Railay Beach as they won’t hesitate to steal your phone and stuff, and wear proper shoes if you plan to climb up the viewpoint!

Once you’ve enjoyed this first day of your Krabi itinerary in Railay, head back to Ao Nang for dinner.

Spend the Evening in Ao Nang

After spending the day at Railay Beach, head back to Ao Nang for some evening fun. Ao Nang is bustling with a lively atmosphere, and you’ll find plenty of restaurants, shops, and the famous Ao Nang Krabi Night Market.

Start by taking in the stunning views of the sunset – the perfect Instagram-worthy moment! Next, head over to the bustling night markets and try some delicious Thai street food while browsing unique souvenirs and trinkets. Make sure to give a try to durian!

End the night sipping cocktails on the shores of the beach or dancing the night away in one of the lively bars.

If you’re not into it, then the next and last activity will blow your mind!

Go to a Muay Thai Match

After witnessing the best sunset you’ve ever seen, it’s time to spice up the night with a little bit of excitement – and what better way than going to a Muay Thai match for it?

The adrenaline-fueled atmosphere in the packed arena will have you on the edge of your seat as fighters expertly execute punches, kicks, elbows, and knees.

You’ll be amazed by their agility and strength as they move through the ring. With each blow, the crowd goes wild, cheering and shouting support for their favorite fighter.

I seriously can’t think of a cooler activity to end the first night on your Krabi itinerary!

Two men kickboxing in a gym.

Day 2: Island Hopping Tour and Sunset

The second of your 3 days Krabi itinerary is all about island hopping and fun!

This island-hopping tour will take you to four stunningly beautiful islands in the Andaman Sea, including Koh Poda, Koh Gai (Chicken Island), Tup Island, and Railay Beach.

Be prepared for incredible views of crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches surrounded by towering limestone cliffs. Whether swimming or snorkeling in the turquoise waters or simply relaxing on the beach with a cool drink.

Alternatively, while the 4-island tour is a must-do, I’ll offer another day trip that is equally awesome. Here’s how to spend the second day on your Krabi itinerary.

Limestone cliffs and boats on clear water.

OPTION 1: Join the 7-Island Tour

The popular 7-island tour is a must-do when in Krabi and the best way to experience the coastline, and it’s where the only thing more beautiful than the scenery is the possibility of making a ton of memories with other travelers.

First up, you’ll get to Railay Beach in a longtail boat, which is a nice, authentic way to start.

Your adventure starts with a pit stop at Railay Beach, then head straight to the coral paradise of Koh Yawasam. Here, you’ll get to snorkel and see the marine life is, and that is an experience not to be missed.

After that, you’ll stop at a second snorkeling point, Chicken Island, and this is where you can see the island with a chicken shape, and that makes everyone always laugh.

Apart from that, you’ll walk across the sandbar connecting Tub and Mor Islands.

That’s not it: Koh Tan Ming offer a perfect snorkeling spot before you indulge in a sumptuous BBQ dinner on the beach of Koh Poda, against the backdrop of a stunning sunset.

The highlight of the evening is a swim with bioluminescent plankton at Koh Raeng, another unforgettable experience!

By the end of it, you’ll be full, happy, and probably a bit salty. But hey, that’s what adventure is all about, right? Check out the 7-island tour here below, I’m confident you’ll love it!

OPTION 2: Phi Phi Islands Speedboat Day Tour

The Phi Phi Islands have become one of the most iconic island destinations in Southeast Asia and one of the best places in Krabi province. With this tour, you’ll be able to experience all their beauty while having fun.

Your day will start with a morning speedboat tour departing Krabi around 9 am, taking you straight to the Phi Phi Islands.

First up, you’ll get to Pileh Lagoon, where you can snorkel with all these colorful fish and coral. Then there’s Maya Bay, which you might have seen in “The Beach” movie. It’s a stunning place where you can chill and work on your tan, which is a gorgeous place to!

Your guide will also take you to YKoh Pai, with its postcard-perfect beaches and crystal-clear water. And then there’s Viking Cave and Monkey Beach, where you can see cliffs and, if you’re lucky, you’ll even spot monkeys!

The whole trip is pretty chill. You get to snorkel in beautiful spots, take in some amazing views, and even have a tasty Thai lunch at Phi Phi Cliff Beach Resort.

They sort you out with all the gear you need for snorkeling and even offer hotel transfers, so you don’t have to worry about getting to and from the place.

So, if you’re up for an adventure and want to spend a day exploring some of the coolest spots around Krabi, this tour is pretty much a no-brainer. Plus, you get to ride on a speedboat, which is always nice!

Watch the Sunset at Ao Nang Beach

Ao Nang Beach is the perfect spot to end a 3-day trip to Krabi. The atmosphere of Ao Nang Beach during sunset is absolutely magical. Enjoy the gorgeous beach, watch the sun dip below the horizon, and soak in the last of the rays.

Other than the night market, my personal recommendations for good food at a reasonable price are Noori India, with great service and delicious food, and Pyramids Restaurant, with Arabic and Thai food.

Day 3: Krabi Town and Viewpoints

On the last day, you’ll get to explore the areas outside of Ao Nang, which are full of cool activities and unique sights. I’m talking about the famous Tiger Cave Temple and its viewpoint, the relaxing Krabi hot springs, and the stunning Emerald Pool.

You can rent a scooter or hire a taxi to get around, but I personally recommend joining a day trip, which I’ll elaborate on further below.

The day tour lasts around 10 hours, so it’ll take the whole day. In case you decide to rent a scooter or travel on your own, it’ll take approximately the same time, so be ready for a day of adventures!

Relax in the Krabi Hot Springs

Klong Thom Hot Springs is a natural hot spring in Krabi, perfect for a relaxing soak, and this is the perfect place to start the day.

A man-made pool has been built nearby to allow more people to enjoy the hot springs. Needless to say, this is exactly what you’re in Krabi for – relax and landscapes!

Enjoy the tranquility of the hot springs surrounded by lush greenery.

When you book a day trip, you’ll get free transportation from Ao Nang and back, which is very convenient.

If not, just drive from Krabi Town or Ao Nang Beach and head east – It’s worth noting that the hot springs are located about 50km from Krabi City, and I wouldn’t recommend driving on your own if you’ve never driven in Thailand before.

Don’t forget to bring 100 Baht per person for the entrance fee and 10 Baht for parking. Also, if you plan to visit the Emerald Pool, it’ll cost you 200 Baht more.

Take a Dip in Emerald Pool

After chilling at the hot springs, check out the Emerald Pool, which is only 10km away, and you’ll get there easily with a tour.

It’s a stunning natural pool with water that looks like it’s been dyed emerald. The minerals in the water are what give it its amazing color.

It’s located in Thung Teao Forest Natural Park, which is also worth a visit if you have more time available – the entrance fee is 200 Baht, so keep that in mind if you go by yourself.

The morning is the best time to go, when the sun is out, to get the most out of your visit. Take a dip in the pool, explore the jungle walk, and enjoy the tranquility of the area.

Doesn’t it sound like the perfect plan before climbing up the Tiger Cave Temple?

Hike up to Tiger Cave Temple

The Tiger Cave Temple, also called Wat Tham Sua is a must-see for any visitor to Krabi. It’s a temple located 1260 steps up from the base, and legend has it that its name comes from a monk who spotted tigers roaming around the cave while he was meditating. But don’t worry – there aren’t any tigers around anymore!

Take the trek up the steps and check out the golden Buddha and the stunning views of Krabi. And watch out for those pesky monkeys that might try to snatch your snacks – they can get pretty feisty!

Pack a reusable water bottle, and don’t forget to take in the sights at the base of the temple, such as the artificial waterfall, the cool cafeteria, and the beautiful temple.

Take a Boat Along Khao Khanap Nam

While in Krabi town, make sure to go explore the scenic beauty of Khao Khanap Nam, 2 towering cliffs right off the night market. As you cruise down the river, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the limestone cliffs that tower overhead.

You will also stop at an archeological site with a bat cave and even spot some of the local wildlife, including monkeys and birds. And if you time your journey right, you’ll be able to watch the sunset over the river in a truly unforgettable experience.

So why not hop on board a boat today and explore Khao Khanap Nam in style?

The 2-hour boat trip cost me 500 THB, which was very reasonable and I recommend it!

Explore Krabi Town

Krabi Town is a great spot to explore and get a taste of the local culture, and I highly recommend you come here before ending your itinerary for Krabi.

You can easily book a taxi from Ao Nang or book a shuttle from the agencies all around Ao Nang – the price is 150 Baht per person, or around $5.

Check out the night market, indulge in delicious Thai food, and take some photos for your social media – you have to brag on social media while in Thailand!

Don’t forget to check out the Krabi (Town) Weekend Night Market and the Poo Dam Night Market for some local flavors.

And be sure to pay a visit to Wat Kaew Korawaram. There, you can read up on the stories of Buddha on the info boards, but keep in mind that some of the explanations are only in Thai.

You won’t have to worry about spending money to get in; it’s free!

3 Days Krabi Itinerary – FAQ

Now that we’ve discussed everything you should know for the perfect itinerary, let’s answer some questions from first-time visitors.

How Many Days do you Need in Krabi?

To fully experience the beauty and adventure that Krabi has to offer, I recommend staying for at least three days. This will give you enough time to explore the charming town of Ao Nang, relax on the best beaches, and take day trips to nearby islands or visit the Tiger Cave Temple.

With 3 days, you can also indulge in the delicious local cuisine, shop for souvenirs, and immerse yourself in the unique culture of southern Thailand.

Is Krabi Nicer than Phuket?

Both Krabi and Phuket have their own unique charm and appeal, so it really depends on what you’re looking for.

Krabi is known for its stunning natural beauty, with lush jungles, towering cliffs, and crystal-clear waters. It’s also a bit less crowded than Phuket, making it a great choice for travelers seeking a more laid-back and relaxed atmosphere.

On the other hand, Phuket is known for its vibrant nightlife, lively beaches, and a wider range of dining and entertainment options. So if you’re looking for a more lively atmosphere with plenty of activities to keep you busy, Phuket may be the better choice for you.

However, if you’re seeking a more peaceful and nature-focused experience, Krabi may be the nicer destination.

Is 3 days in Krabi Enough?

While 3 days in Krabi is enough time to see some of the main tourist attractions and get a taste of what the area has to offer, it may not be enough to fully explore all that Krabi has to offer.

With 3 days, you can visit popular attractions like Ao Nang Beach, Railay Beach, and the Tiger Cave Temple, as well as go on day trips to nearby islands.

However, if you have more time available, it’s definitely worth considering extending your stay to fully immerse yourself in the beauty and adventure of Krabi.

With more time, you can experience more off-the-beaten-track destinations, indulge in the delicious local cuisine, and truly relax and unwind.

Is Krabi Worth Visiting?

Definitely, and Krabi is my personal favorite beach destination in Thailand.

Krabi has a unique atmosphere and plenty of attractions to offer, making it worth visiting any time. From the stunning beaches of Railay and Ao Nang to the exciting Chao Fah Night Market and beautiful Emerald Pool, you’re guaranteed to have an unforgettable experience in Krabi.

So if you have the chance, don’t miss out on the opportunity to visit Krabi!

Where to Stay in Krabi?

Last but not least, let’s talk about the best Krabi hotels, whether you travel on a budget or looking for a premium property.

While many people stay in Railay Beach, and I did too, you’ll want to stay near Ao Nang Beach if you have only 3 days in Krabi.

The reason for that is obviously convenience, so you won’t carry your luggage everywhere, but also because you can see most things in Railay on a day out, like I mentioned in this Krabi itinerary.
