Located just over 1 hour by plane or 800 kilometers from Bangkok, you’ll be happy to know that there are plenty of things to do in Krabi.
Krabi, Thailand, is known for its stunning limestone cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and abundance of beach bars and restaurants, so it’s no wonder that it’s one of the busiest areas in all of Thailand. Needless to say, you should definitely include Krabi in your Thailand itinerary, no matter how long you stay.
Take an island-hopping day trip, spend the afternoon in Krabi town, relax in Railay Beach, or simply get tempted by the icy cold Singha beer on offer.
Rising temperatures notwithstanding, there’s much to do in Krabi Province beyond simply lounging on the beach. Let’s take a look at some of the top things to do in this amazing region. You won’t be disappointed!
Unique Things to Do in Krabi, Thailand
Krabi is a stunning and serene city located in Southern Thailand. It’s home to some of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, such as Ao Nang and Railay Beach. In addition to its stunning wonders, the city has plenty of other attractions – so let’s get started and discover the best things to do in Krabi.
Do The 4-Island Tour
To kick off our list is the popular 4-island tour, a must-do when in Krabi and the best way to experience Krabi coastline. You’ll get to jump on a traditional longtail boat and—you guessed it—discover 4 different islands, all incredibly beautiful.
The tour starts in Ao Nang Beach in the morning, and you’ll be taken straight to Railay Beach and its Phranang Cave, one of the most beautiful places in Thailand if you ask me. Of course, you’ll have some time to take photos on the way.
After that, you will visit Chicken Island and stop to snorkel – Note that you cannot enter Chicken Island, so this stop is purely to take photos and go snorkeling. Then, you’ll get to Poda Island to have lunch and walk along the white sand beaches or explore the mangrove forests.
Lastly, you will head to Tup Island, where you can relax on the beach or go for a swim in the turquoise waters.
Note that you have 2 options in terms to the boat – the tours aboard a speed boat or those with an authentic longtail boat. While longtail boats are indeed more authentic and original, you’ll spend less time aboard with a speed boat and get to enjoy the islands more. So I’d recommend this option.
Alternatively, another tour I recommend is the 7-island sunset cruise from Ao Nang – a must-do for sunset and snorkeling lovers!

Wander Around Ao Nang
Ao Nang is one of Krabi’s most popular tourist destinations, and it’s easy to see why.
The Ao Nang Beach is a beautiful stretch of sand flanked by towering limestone cliffs, and the cafes and restaurants in the area offer a delicious range of Thai and international cuisine.
You can start the day having breakfast in front of the stunning beach, then work on your tan, and follow with lunch; there’s everything you could ever imagine – Indian food, Thai delicacies, Italian cuisine, and much more.
On top of that, Ao Nang boasts the best places to stay in Krabi. Let’s not forget that all day trips depart from Ao Nang, including those to Railay Beach, to go rock climbing or chill.
And the beach is simply stunning, you could easily spend the day here playing in the water and taking a short lunch break around noon. But don’t forget your sunscreen, the sun in Thailand is very strong.
Finally, in the evening, after witnessing the sunset, you could walk all the way to the night market, which is about 15 to 20 minutes, and have dinner with a beer there!

Explore Thung Teao Forest Natural Park and its Emerald Pool
One of the most popular things to do on your Krabi itinerary is the Thung Teao Forest Natural Park. This park is home to an emerald green pool, which is fed by a natural spring. The water is always refreshing, and it’s the perfect place to cool off on a hot day.
The park also has a nature trail that wind through the jungle, and there’s even a waterfall that you can swim under. If you’re looking for a place to relax and enjoy nature, then Thung Teao Forest Natural Park is a must-visit.
The highlight during an entertaining tour through Krabi’s rainforest should be at first glance -the refreshing emerald pool; however, if you have time, can also explore other parts, such as Wat Tham Sua, the Tiger Cave Temple and the stunning views from the top!
Klong Thom Hot Springs
Located only 15 minutes away by car, from the Thung Teao Forest Natural Park and its Emerald Pool, Klong Thom Hot Springs are a delightful and relaxing way to spend an afternoon.
Also known as Krabi Hot Springs, they are the perfect combination of relaxation and adventure.
They are also perfect for people who want to relax and rejuvenate themselves. The water is around 35 degrees, which is just the right temperature for those who want to jump in and out as they please.
The pool is revigorating, but make sure you take the time to relax – You will feel relaxed after bathing in such a hot temperature. Also, I recommend staying not over than 20 minutes inside without diving into the cold water for your body not to overheat.
I suggest taking a day trip to the Emerald Pool to mix the best of both world, as well as hiking on top of the Tiger Cave.
All in all, the Krabi Hot Springs are a sight to behold and definitely one of the best things to do in Krabi.
Join the 7-Island Sunset Tour
Discover seven gorgeous islands near Krabi on a long tail boat tour, indulging in an idyllic BBQ dinner as you watch the sunset on Koh Poda. Beginning the 7 island sunset tour with pickup from your hotel, you’ll depart by traditional longtail boat from Ao Nang beach. There will be a brief stopover at Phra Nang Beach to pick up other passengers.
Koh Yawasam’s shallow gardens of coral, flat sandy areas, and cruise-around chicken-shaped rock make it a paradise swimmer or amateur photographers. At Koh Kai, there is an excellent photo opportunity at this oddly-shaped natural landmark.
Or enjoy some beach time at the next stop, Koh Tub. And If you’re feeling brave (at low tide), take a walk across the sandbank that connects it to Chicken and Mor Islands nearby!
You’ll have worked up an appetite after all that exertion, so you’ll enjoy a BBQ dinner right on the beach as the sun goes down – what a way to end the day in paradise!
Wat Tham Sua – Krabi’s Tiger Cave Temple
Next on our list is the Tiger Cave Temple, one of the top places in Krabi. You have to hike up 1,260 steps, which can be quite challenging and sweaty, but it’s definitely worth it!
At the top of the temple terrace, you’ll find numerous beautiful Buddha statues and an incredible view of Krabi. Be sure to go early in the morning or late afternoon when it’s not as hot outside.
It’s part of a temple complex where monks reside at the base and worship within a maze of natural caves encircled by lush jungle on limestone rock formations.
The last steps are surely the most difficult, but you’ll be rewarded with some of the best views you’ve ever witnessed in your entire life. Did I mention that you’ll see an ancient Buddhist statue’s footprint at the top?
Ultimately, I recommend joining a day trip to combine your visit with the Emerald Pool and other attractions – and you could even make friends on the way!

Head to Railay Beach
Railay Beach is my favorite place in Thailand, and I’m confident it will soon become yours as well.
You’ve probably seen or heard of Railay Beach before, boasting lots of stunning hotels, luxurious restaurants, and incredible beaches like Phra Nang Beach, it is featured in most magazines about Thailand.
The Railay Peninsula and can only be accessed by boat from Ao Nang Beach in Krabi. As soon as you get here, you’ll notice remarkable rocks where climbers dangle upside down, lush green jungle in the background, and soft sand beneath your feet.
There are no other words to describe Railay Beach than perfect. It’s no wonder this beach was voted as a must-see for anyone travelling to Thailand.
I recommend staying here for 1 or 2 nights to make the most of it. However, if your time in Thailand is rather limited, you could just go on the 4-island tour in Krabi and stay for a couple of hours – enough to see the Princess Cave at Phra Nang Beach.
Visit an Elephant Sanctuary
If you’re looking for a fun and unique activity, consider visiting an elephant sanctuary. There are several sanctuaries in Krabi, and they offer a variety of activities, including feeding the elephants, bathing with them, walking inside the jungle, and more.
This is a great activity for families or groups of friends. Elephant sanctuaries are a great way to learn more about these amazing animals and get up close and personal with them.
You’ll also have the opportunity to support a good cause – many sanctuaries rescue elephants that have been mistreated or abused and provide them with a safe haven.
Hike Up to Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint
Thailand is a country famous for its breathtaking natural beauty, and Krabi is one of its gems. Nestled between the Andaman Sea and the jungle-covered mountains, one of the best things to do in Krabi is the Dragon Crest Mountain.
You see, one of the best ways to take in Krabi’s stunning scenery is to hike up to Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint.
The hike itself is relatively easy, but you should plan at least 1.5 hours to get to the top. Is it worth it? Definitely! You’ll be rewarded with views of sheer limestone cliffs, verdant rainforests, and azure waters.
Khao Ngon Nak Viewpoint is the perfect place to take in Krabi’s natural wonders and snap some unforgettable photos.
That being said, weather is sometimes unpredictable in Southern Thailand and I highly recommend taking good hiking shoes and lots of water – 1 big bottle per person should do.
For those with little to no experience hiking, why not take a trip to the viewpoint with a guide? It’s arguably the best way to travel there and stay safe the whole time.
Take a Day Trip to Phi Phi Islands
The Phi Phi Islands are among Thailand’s most gorgeous islands, and they’re just around Krabi. You’ll discover everything you need to have an ideal tropical holiday here, only 90 minutes by ferryboat from Krabi Town.
These beautiful islands offer a variety of activities, including swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, and more.
You can reach the Phi Phi Islands by boat from Ao Nang Beach and Phra Nang Beach in Railay. After picking you up from your hotel, the long-tail boat will take you to the first stop, Phi Phi Leh. This is where you can take in the amazing views of Maya Bay, made famous by the 2000 movie “The Beach” starring Leonardo Di Caprio.
After that, you’ll head to Loh Samah Bay, where you can enjoy some snorkeling or relax on the beach. Next up is Viking Cave, where you can see the colorful birds that make their home there.
Finally, you’ll arrive at Monkey Beach where, as its name suggests, you’ll be able to spot some monkeys playing in the trees. With its stunning scenery and myriad of activities on offer, it’s easy to see why the Phi Phi Islands are such a popular destination.
Discover Hong Island from Ao Nang
Take a trip to Hong Islands, also called Koh Hong, and discover one of Krabi’s hidden gems. This small island is located just off the coast of Krabi and is accessible by a longtail boat from Nopparat Thara Pier.
Start the trip with 2 snorkeling stops at Koh Daeng Island and Koh Lading. After that, proceed to Pakbia & Rai Island, for taking awesome shots for your Instagram grid – you will love the scenery!
You will also discover the secret lagoon and have lunch at the beach on Koh Hong.
Once you arrive, you’ll be greeted by pristine white sand beaches and turquoise waters. And to make sure you relax on the beach or swim in the sea, you’ll have 1.5 hours of free time during the tour.
What else to say? Discovering Hong Island is one of the best things to do in Krabi and you should definitely not skip it.
Go Kayaking at the Blue Lagoon
No matter your skill level, fitness or experience with kayaking, Klong Srakaew is the perfect place to try it out. The gentle waterways and majestic scenery of Krabi Forest make for a perfect introduction to the sport. You can relax and paddle around the hidden beautiful lagoon at your own pace.
After that, you will go on a 45-minute ATV ride, a real treat while exploring the jungle around the vicinity.
Your guide will bring you to Sa Kongsi Mountain, where they will show you an amazing natural wonder that has stalactites and stalagmites grown from soft limestone over thousands of years.
Krabi Town
Krabi is where all the city life happens, with plenty of nice cafes to dine in and drink coffee, the Vogue Shopping Mall, and restaurants to taste all the local food.
Not only does Krabi Town have interesting sites, temples, mangrove forests, and caves, but it also provides visitors with an authentic market experience.
And in case you want to try another type of local food, why not going to a Thai cooking class? Siam Thai Cookery School is just behind the corner and you’ll have a great time cooking Thai specialties.
Krabi Town also has a night market full of vendors selling the best food and plenty of cafes for you to sit and enjoy a meal.
It is the perfect place to while away a few hours exploring. Take your time wandering and you’ll find hidden gems around every corner. Stop for a refreshing cup of Thai iced tea, or browse the market stalls for souvenirs.
In case you don’t have lots of time to explore Krabi town, you could take a half-day trip and combine a visit of the city with the Tiger Cave temple, highly recommended!

Take a Boat Along Khao Khanap Nam
If you’re looking for an exciting way to explore the scenic beauty of Khao Khanap Nam (also spelled Khao Khanab Nam), then be sure to take a boat along the river. As you cruise down the river, you’ll be treated to stunning views of the limestone cliffs that tower overhead.
You will also stop at an archeological site with a bat cave and even spot some of the local wildlife, including monkeys and birds. And if you time your journey right, you’ll be able to watch the sunset over the river in a truly unforgettable experience.
So why not hop on board a boat today and explore Khao Khanap Nam in style?
The 2-hour boat trip cost me 500 THB during Covid times, not sure of the actual price now, but you could always negotiate and get a similar price range.
Alternatively, there are day tours that allow you to take the boat as well as discover the life at Koh Klang Local Community, adding a layer of authenticity to your trip in Krabi.
Pray at Wat Kaew Korawaram
While you’re still in Krabi town, make sure to visit Wat Kaew, one of the largest Buddhist temples in Krabi and located on a hilltop.
Despite its popularity, the temple is usually quite calm and serene. This is likely due to the fact that it is located a bit off the beaten path. The exterior of the temple is decorated with white and blue tiles, and the interior hall is covered in beautiful paintings.
The Buddha statue inside is particularly divine and will easily make you at peace.
The temple is also typically quite clean and the shrine inside is well-maintained, making it the ideal stop when it’s hot in Krabi town. If you’re ever in Krabi, be sure to add Wat Kaew to your list of places to see. You won’t be disappointed!
