How to Get to Park Guell
Whether it’s a leisurely stroll amidst the remarkable architecture or a tranquil afternoon spent admiring nature, Park Güell is a lovely and relaxing place to explore.
From the charming sculptures and vibrant mosaics to its lush gardens, you’ll love spending a couple of hours and more here. But before that, you’ll want to know how to get to Park Güell – here is all you need to know.
By Bus
Reaching Park Guell by bus is as easy as it gets. Hop on the H6 or D40 lines and get off at Travessera de Dalt. From the bus stop, you only have to walk for about 5-10 minutes and you’ll get to the park.
Alternatively, you can also take bus 24 from Plaza Catalunya and pass by Carretera del Carmel.
By Tourist Bus
When visiting Barcelona, I recommend getting a tourist bus (Bus Turístic) or a Hop On Hop Off ticket, which allows you to explore Barcelona and only stop at the popular attractions – including Park Güell.
While you can get here by public transport, these buses take you straight to the entrance, which is nice if you want to skip the 10-minute walk.
So, when you reach Park Guell stop, simply get down and take the bus again at the same bus stop when you’re ready to continue.
How to Get to Park Guell By Metro
You can also get to Park Güell by metro with line 3 and stop at either Lesseps or Vallcarca stops in the city center.
- Option 1: Stop at Lesseps stop on line 3, enter Avinguda del Santuari de Sant Josep de la Muntanya, take the elevator, and you’ll get to the park.
- Option 2: Stop at Vallcarca stop on line 3, take the escalator on Baixada de la Glòria, proceed to Avinguda del Santuari de Sant Josep de la Muntanya, take the lift, and you’ll reach Park Güell.
Joining a Guided Tour
The last way, which is also the most practical, to get to Park Guell is with a guided tour.
Tour operators offer group tours as well as private ones for individuals and small groups, which is convenient for everyone, families, couples, or solo travelers.
I highly recommend booking a tour as they include Park Guell tickets and most of them include a visit to La Sagrada Familia. In addition, you’ll learn the story behind the park, unknown facts, and much more, and it’s simply a much deeper and more pleasant experience.
Plus, when you take a Barcelona city tour traveling solo, that’s a great way to make friends on the road, and that is priceless.
However, note that these tours sell out quickly, so book your ticket online as soon as possible.
Getting to Park Guell By Car
While you can get to Park Guell by car, I highly suggest taking the bus or joining a tour instead.
In fact, most parking spots around the park are reserved for residents, and, therefore, you’ll spend a long time finding a spot – if you ever find one.
If you want convenience, then you can call a taxi, but that’ll cost you more than the bus, so I don’t recommend it either.
Things to Do at Park Guell
Photograph the Iconic Dragon Staircase
Start your visit with a trip up the iconic Dragon Staircase (or salamander), which features a 2.4-meter-long dragon sculpture that will make an impression.
Take your time to explore the area and snap some photos of this incredible piece of architecture made of ceramic, which is a nice beautiful addition to the park.
El Viaducto Dels Enamorats
One of the most iconic attractions within the park is El Viaducto Dels Enamorats, or the “Bridge of Lovers.” This bridge, designed by renowned architect Antoni Gaudi, is composed of two arches that are connected by a series of columns and decorated with colorful mosaics.
Visitors can enjoy breathtaking views from the bridge, as well as take pictures with its unique design. The Bridge of Lovers is one of the most popular attractions and you shouldn’t miss it.
Passeig de Las Palmeras
Passeig de Las Palmeras is a beautiful promenade lined with palm trees and offers stunning views of the city. It is a great place to take a stroll, relax, and enjoy the scenery.
The Passeig de Las Palmeras also features several sculptures and monuments, including the famous Dragon Staircase.
Take Pictures at the Terrace
The most famous spot at the park is, without a doubt, the terrace. It offers stunning city views, as well as the 2 pavilions, and provides an ideal backdrop for photos.
See the 2 Pavillions
The two pavilions are 2 creative small houses located near the entrance and right next to the terrace.
You can get inside the pavilions. The left one displays videos about Gaudi’s life, while the one on the right is a small store where you can buy souvenirs and memories. Make it a quick stop!
What to Bring to Park Guell
Taking a day trip to Park Guell is a great way to explore Barcelona, but you should be aware of what you need to bring with you.
Here is what I recommend taking with you:
- Your camera
- Comfortable shoes
- Water and snacks
- A hat and sunscreen
Spending a couple of hours in Park Guell is enough, but if you want to visit all areas, then you might spend longer than that, hence why you’ll want to take all the above.
Travel Tips for Visiting Park Güell
Best Time to Visit
If you want to do it right, timing is key. While you can visit all year round, aim for the low season between January to March or October to December when there are fewer visitors.
Also, to enjoy the park to its fullest and beat the crowds, aim to get there by 9:30 AM; by 11 AM, your trip will already feel like a classic Barcelona afternoon escape.
Parking Options
Most of the available parking options are allotted to residents and leave limited options for tourists. For this reason, joining a tour is the best way to explore this spectacular park with a knowledgeable guide.
The best option would be to join a day tour that offers convenient pick-up and drop-off, sparing you the hassle of driving around Barcelona.
Accessibility Information
Visiting Park Guell is a must-do on any trip to Barcelona, and luckily there’s now more accessibility features available.
For those that need a wheelchair, there are 2 available at the park and you can book them by contacting the staff at [email protected].
Also, while the parking spots are mostly reserved for residents, there are some reserved for people with reduced mobility, which is fantastic.
Lastly, in case you need to use the restroom, it’s located behind the cafe, so you can use that time for a quick stop. There are also toilets near the entrance but those are portable toilets.
