Cho Con Market Da Nang – Overview

Let’s start this guide with the essentials you should know, from the Con Market’s location to getting there and more.

Where is Cho Con Market Da Nang?

Cho Con Market is in the heart of Da Nang, conveniently located not far from iconic landmarks like the Yellow Dragon Bridge and the Cham Museum.

Its central position makes it an accessible spot to discover the local shopping scene, and you’ll have a glimpse into the daily life of locals.

How to Get to Cho Con Market?

Getting to Cho Con Market is straightforward. If you’re staying nearby, a walk could be a pleasant way to see more of the city.

For a quicker option, call a Grab taxi, which is affordable and convenient. And if you’re up for an adventure, you can rent a motorbike, but please don’t do it if that’s your first time.

Is the Con Market in Da Nang Worth Visiting?

While I personally prefer the central Han Market, Cho Con Market is worth visiting if you have extended time in Da Nang. It offers a genuine peek into Da Nang’s local life and culture.

If you’re curious to experience where the city’s residents shop for daily necessities beyond the tourist trails, Cho Con Market is a good start.

Best Time to Visit Cho Con Market

The best time to visit is in the morning or around 4 PM. Early in the day, you have more choices for clothes and there are not too many people around.

But if you can’t make it in the morning, the afternoon is still pretty good. It gets a bit busier, but you can still find plenty of stuff without feeling like you’re in a crowd. I don’t recommend coming for lunch as this is when the locals come to eat and, therefore, it gets pretty busy.

Opening Times

The market opens from 7 AM to 7 PM every day – However, most of the stalls start closing up around 5 PM. For this reason, I recommend coming earlier to make the most of it and find more vendors.

Cho Con Market Layout and Sections

While there is only one floor at the Cho Con Market in Da Nang, there are hundreds of stalls, and it’s divided into several sections – I’ll cover each of the sections here below.

Fresh Produce and Food Stalls

Cho Con Market is an energetic place where the blend of various smells and a busy atmosphere adds to its appeal. And yes, it can come up as smelly if you’re not used to Asian food, especially Vietnamese, with shrimp paste and fish sauce, but that’s all part of the fun.

The market spans a large area and you’ll find fresh produce at the back with fruits, vegetables, and snacks. There’s also a food court with many vendors selling rice noodles, soup, spring rolls, and more.

Clothing and Handbags

In the back alleys of Cho Con Market, not far from the entrance, you’ll see a variety of clothing and handbags. And you’ll find anything you’re after, from underwear to handbags to hats and backpacks and more.

Compared to Han Market, the styles might not catch your eye as much, but you’ll definitely appreciate the prices here, as they’re relatively cheaper. Also, be prepared for narrow alleys, and they’re quite small, and I was glad to come in the morning with fewer people.

It’s a good spot for budget-friendly shopping, especially if you’re into finding deals or you’re just after some basic items without wanting to spend too much.

Souvenirs and Handicrafts

If you’re looking to bring a piece of your trip back home with you, don’t skip the Vietnamese souvenirs and handicrafts section. This corner of Cho Con Market is all about local artistry, offering everything from classic to more modern pieces.

Whether you’re on the hunt for a small keepsake or a standout piece, this area lets you dive into the local culture through beautifully crafted items. It’s a cool way to remember your trip and support local artists at the same time.

Shopping Tips and Bargaining

While the Cho Con Market can be fun, it’s important to keep a few things in mind before you start your shopping spree. Here are some top tips for shopping and bargaining like a pro:

Bargaining is a part of the culture in Vietnam, so don’t be afraid to negotiate with vendors. Start by offering half of the price that’s lower than what the vendor is asking for, and be prepared to walk away if the vendor won’t lower their price.

For instance, if an item costs 200k VND, ask 100k, and then start your way up and get ready to pay around 150k to 160k VND.

It’s always a good idea to compare prices between different stalls or sections of the market before making a purchase. Prices can vary significantly depending on the vendor, so take your time and shop around to ensure you’re getting the best deal possible.

Also, remember that vendors are working hard to make a living, so always be polite and respectful when bargaining and keep your negotiations friendly.

Lastly, don’t negotiate when you purchase tropical fruits as they already have a fair price, but feel free to negotiate slightly when buying dried fruit packages.
